Golfer qualifies twice
Kerrin Starr, one of the favoured contenders for the Canterbury champion-of-champions women’s golf title at Windsor on Monday, qualified for the tournament twice over.
Starr, aged 17, is a member of the Avondale and Christchurch clubs and is the 1988 club champion of both. From the top five golfers in last year’s champion-of-champions event only Starr, third, and Moanna Pollock (Amberley), fifth, are contesting the 1988 tournament. Those missing include the title-holder, Liz Douglas. The Canterbury association’s policy of fostering junior women’s golf is obviously working with such youngsters as Starr, Kerry Williams (Kaiapoi) and Lynne-Marie Shaskey (Waitikiri) all in the tournament. The more senior golfers include Pollock and Jackie Benschop (Russley), who recently retained their Canterbury women’s foursomes championship.
