One of these was a small post-European Maori carving, of “Panea Riding the Whale” in whale ivory, 55mm long and 25mm high bearing the serial number 36. E. timberlands Aorangi District NOTICE IS GIVEN under Sections 19, 22 and 27 of the Forest and Rural Fires Act 1977 that a restricted fire season has been declared within all Timberlands Fire Districts. The Fire Districts concerned are the following forests along with their I.skm fire safety margin: (a) Geraldine Forest including Pioneer Park and Raincliff (b) Waimate Forest (c) Herbert Forest (d) Naseby Forest including Gimmerburn Forest No fires may be lit in the open without a fire permit from N.Z. Timberlands Ltd. The following activities are permitted within the restricted fire season. (a) Barbecues lit in properly constructed containers and fuelled with gas, solid or liquid fuels. (b) Cooking fires at camping sites lit within a concrete or stone surround and with not less than three metres of clear ground surrounding the container. Provided that no such fires shall be lit when high or gusty winds are prevailing. Permits for fires may be issued on application to N.Z. Timberlands Ltd Officer at Geraldine, Waimate, Herbert and Naseby. Application for permits should be made in advance to allow area concerned to be inspected prior to permit issue. A ban on all fires on any day or days of extreme fire hazard as broadcast under section 20 of the Act takes precedence over this notice or any permits issued.
