Wool prices up
PA Wellington Wool prices rose at the Dunedin sale yesterday, compared with the combined North and South Island sales on September 22. The Wool Board was called upon to give only moderate support, bidding on 5.8 per cent and having passed or sold to it 0.1 per cent. There were 2858 clean tonnes (24,223 bales) on offer. The offering comprised 26 per cent crossbred fleece, 13 per cent second shear, 12 per cent merino fleece, 10 per cent bulky skirtings and 4 per cent clothing oddments, with the balance comprising
crutchings and miscellaneous. According to an early official report, the tone was as follows: Merino fleece, 19/24 micron, 5 per cent dearer. Halfbred, 25/26 micron, 1 to 3 per cent dearer; 27/ 29 micron up to 1 per cent cheaper; 30/31 micron 1.5 per cent dearer. Halfbred bulky oddments nominally 10 per cent dearer. Crossbred fleece, 37 micron, 2 per cent dearer; 35 micron up to 5 per cent dearer. Crossbred second shear up to 2.5 per cent dearer. Crossbred bulky skirtings nominally 2 per cent dearer.
