Indecencies seen A man stood in an empty section on Barbadoes Street on Wednesday and attempted to entice women over while he masturbated. The man, who was wearing a mask, was seen in the section about 7 p.m. The police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen him there or elsewhere in the area. He was about 174 cm tall, and wearing a fawn jersey and dark trousers. Bureau inquiries The Christchurch Citizens Advice Bureau received an average of 98 inquiries a day during August, a total of 2251 inquiries. The highest number of calls, 52.3, were to do with services and general information. A further 348 w’ere legal inquiries and 285 were on health and welfare. Jazz concert A jazz concert will be held at the Botanic Gardens band rotunda on Saturday between 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. The music will be provided by the Touchwood Jazz Trio. The concert, organised as part of the “Spring’s Here” festival programme, is the first of several Saturday evening concerts in the rotunda until October 22. Tablets taken A small quantity of analgesic tablets were taken from the Opawa Pharmacy, Opawa Road, early yesterday morning. A brick was thrown through the front window of the pharmacy about 2.30 a.m. Two people, wearing dark clothing, were seen leaving the area on a British motor-cycle. Telephone exchange Work on a $3.7 million telephone exchange for New Brighton residents began this week in Collingwood Street. The exchange will be equipped with the latest technology and an extra 15,000 lines will be put in to provide for future growth. The building is expected to be completed by March and the change to the new exchange is planned for October, next year.
