Sir, —Replying to V. Wilkinson (September 24) the quote “radicals and reasonable people” came from a black leader and former A.N.C. executive member, John Mavuso. Need I spell out that the radicals he speaks of are the Left-wing revolutionaries of the A.N.C.-U.D.F. and the reasonable people are black and white moderates who want peaceful reform towards a freeenterprise democracy. I am also amazed at Mr Wilkinson ranking the dark works of Marx with those of Christian evangelists, social reformers and Christ himself. Marxism is hate, revolution and repression. Christianity is forgiveness, reform and reconciliation. Responding to K. Martin (September 21), I feel justified in being “galled” by correspondents who sidestep factual argument with clever counter-charges and diversionary red herrings. — Yours, etc., lAN DIMBLEBY. October 4, 1988.
