Company releases its own stamps
PA Wellington A New Zealand-based international mail distribution company has released a set of stamps for its services featuring the yacht Steinlager 1 leading the Bicentennial Around Australia race. International Mail Express’s marketing director, Mr Ross Cunningham, said the stamps would help identify mail but would also become collectable items. The stamps were released at the Royal 100 Stamp exhibition, marking 100 years of organised stamp collecting in New Zealand. Mr Cunningham said the stamps would not get the company into trouble with New Zealand Post, which has taken to court an Otorohanga company that has issued its own stamps. Speaking before their release, New Zealand Post’s philatelic manager, Mr David Bignail, said the corporation would wait until it saw the “labels” before deciding what it would do.
