Fillies to take centre stage at Masterton meeting

Special correspondent Wellington The rematch of Kate’s Myth, Olga’s Pal, Bolshoi Star and Vinegar Lil promises to be the highlight of racing at Tauherenikau tomorrrow when the Masterton Racing Club stages its spring meeting. They race in the $40,000 Lowland Stakes (1400 m which is also the second race of the Wrightson Filly of the Year series. In the first, the $45,000 Cavanagh Stakes at Hastings last month, Kate’s Myth was first, Olga’s Pal second, Bolshoi Star third and Vinegar Lil fifth. Only Olga’s Pal has raced sinced the Stakes. She was second last month in the Gilbey’s Guineas Trial (1400 m at Te Aroha, a race won by Testament. A field of only 13 has been gathered for the Lowland, which is a nice size and it should give most runners a chance. The track is likely to be dry, which will please a host of trainers. Kate’s Myth, certainly, will be all the better for her race at Hastings. She has done well since her Hastings race, but as her trainer, Murray Baker, points out, the other fillies will also be improved.
