Division

Sir, —When I was small I had to learn short division, and by the age of six was ensconced in

long division. I guess I did not follow the academic course that led to inside division. It strikes me that all those who are running this country at the moment are busy in the “Beehive” doing their inside-out division. This, I presume, is a new maths based on the premise that there are none so blind as those who will not see. If we do not improve and maintain our political sight there will soon be no divisions, in the House or for the House, to indicate democracy. When that happens we can all sit back and concentrate on our multiplication tables. — Yours, etc., G. P. L. BRETHERTON. September 30, 1988.
