'Conflict' committees appointed
By
OLIVER RIDDELL
in Wellington Ten committees have been appointed by the Labour Party to handle any policy conflicts with the Government. This comes after the Statement of Intent that the Prime Minister, Mr Lange, got his party to agree to at its annual conference in Dunedin last month. He agreed' that where Government intentions were contrary to specific Labour Party policy, the Government would go through a process of consultation. The wish of the Minis-
ter of Health, Mr Caygill, to introduce a health policy that contains payments for prescriptions — if at a reduced rate — has led him to make the first approach along the lines set out in the statement. It is against Labour Party policy for health consumers to pay any prescription charge. Membership of the committees followed the procedure set out at the conference, said Labour’s president, Ms Ruth Dyson. Ms Dyson said the members of the 10 policy committees had been chosen for their competence and expertise.
