Fishermen neutral

PA Tauranga The Fishing Industry Union is taking a neutral stand on calls for fishermen to boycott the Government’s catch-recording system. The call was made on Tuesday by a Whangarei fisherman, Mr Bob Martin, who has advocated that fishermen refuse to fill out catch records required under the quotamanagement system. Yesterday the president of the union, Mr Sean McCann of Tauranga, said he sympathised with Mr Martin’s views, but the union was making no recommendation to its members, who form the crews of mainly larger fishing boats.
