Cheaper petrol by Christmas
PA Auckland Motorists may be able to buy cheaper petrol before Christmas. New Zealand oil companies are predicting a price drop if the price of crude oil is maintained, bur they warn there will be no immediate price reduction. A spokesman for BP Oil N.Z., Ltd, Mr Kelley Griffiths, said there would be at least three months delay before motorists would benefit. Mr Griffiths said all New Zealand’s crude oil was bought three to four months in advance in order to refine it into petrol and then distribute it. Oil companies would closely monitor the exchange rate, he said. A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Energy, Ms Carolyn Homwa, said If oil prices stabilised at the lower rate the Ministry would expect petrol prices to fall. Under the Ministry’s price gauge motorists j could expect to pay I around 83.5 c a litre.
