Futures pick up
Interest rate ‘futures were mixed again yesterday on encouraging volume. The October bank bill contract slipped six points to 8567 as a high total of 521 lots were traded. The contract traded in a 5 point range. Government stock futures were also well traded as the December contract gained three points to 8718. A solid 803 lots were traded in anarrow four point range. On the Sydney Futures Exchange, the December share price index futures closed weaker at 1493 — a discount of more than 18 points to the physical market — from 1506 previously.
