Heart patient allowed to return home

NZPA London “It’s like getting an early Christmas present,” said Miss Ann Crawford after being given the all-clear by her doctor to return home to New Zealand. Miss Crawford was told by her heart transplant surgeon, Mr Magdi Yacoub, this week that a dramatic improvement in her health has meant that a second transplant operation may now not be necessary. “It’s the best news that I have heard for a long time,” she said. "I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see my fiancee, family and friends.” Miss Crawford became engaged to a Southland schoolteacher, Mr Paul Andersen, in May, two months before coming to London. “We have spent only 19 days together since our engagement, so we
have got quite a bit of catching up to do,” she said. Miss Crawford and her parents, Mr Ossie Crawford and Mrs Isabel Crawford, who accompanied her to England, are hoping to get a return flight to New Zealand sometime next week.
