Assault with intent to injure

A dispute over a Rottweiller dog resulted in a solo father, and first offender, facing charges in the District Court yesterday of assault with intent to injure, and intentionally damaging two windows. John Robert Kirner, aged 37 (Mr A. J. Davis), admitted the offences which occurred on September 8. He was convicted by Judge Bisphan and remanded to October 13 for sentence. On the night of September 7 Kirner went to an address to collect his dog only to find that it had been sold, without his permission, by his former girlfriend, said Sergeant K. Morrison. Armed with two knives "for his own protection” Kirner, with a friend, went to a motel where the

complainant was staying. While demanding his dog back the defendant held one of the knives at the complainant’s chin, said Sergeant Morrison. In the altercation which followed the complainant suffered a broken nose, a broken tooth, and extensive facial bruising. EXTRA JAIL TERM Six months was added to the existing prison term being served by a man convicted of escaping from Paparua Prison, unlawfully taking two cars, and attempting to escape from the No. 1 courtroom of the District Court while on his way back into the cells. Shane Terence Fox, aged 21, a tattooist (Mr S. F. Fairclough), appeared handcuffed in the dock. Sergeant Morrison said the defendant, at present

serving 12 months jail, failed to return from week-end leave earlier this month. While at large he converted in Christchurch a $3OOO car which he drove to Kaikoura. There he abandoned the vehicle and converted another vehicle valued at $2OOO. He was arrested at the Clarence River bridge, said Sergeant Morrison. Fox said he took the vehicles to get to the North Island. RECEIVING OFFENCE Stolen property valued at $5152 was found by police in a locked garage at the address of Sandra Elizabeth Bradshaw, aged 33, a solo mother, said Sergeant Morrison. The items, which included children’s and sports clothing, a vacuum cleaner, chinaware, and

an answerphone, were according to Bradshaw being stored for other people. Bradshaw (Mr A. N. D. Garrett), who admitted four charges of receiving between March and July, was convicted and remanded to October 13 for sentence. Sergeant Morrison said the property received by the defendant came from the burglaries of four commercial premises in which property of a total value of $155,972 was Stolen. Bradshaw told the police she had not been paid to store the stolen property, neither was she selling any of it. SCHOOL BURGLED A man who broke into the science block at Mairehau High School told the police, when apprehended, that he was

looking for certain chemicals which he had been unable to buy, Sergeant Morrison said. Tana Panapa, aged 30, unemployed (Mr A. N. D. Garrett), also admitted three charges of stealing a $24 book, a $650 sheepskin jacket, and a leather jacket, valued at $l5O, which belonged to a staff member at one of the three premises he stole the property from. Sergeant Morrison said the offences occurred only three days after Panapa had been released on parole. The defendant was convicted and remanded in custody to October 6 for sentence. On a charge of burgling Oxley Prams in Colombo Street, Panapa was remanded to November 15 for a defended hearing.
