A.C.C. to pay out for R.S.I.

The Accident Compensation Corporation would compensate victims of the employment-related disease, repetitive strain injury (R.S.L), said the corporation’s Canterbury area manager, Mr Ken Judd, yesterday. “But each case would be considered on its merits,” he said. If the disability was permanent the sufferer would also receive a lump sum payment, according to a doctor’s assessment. “As long as the disease is diagnosed as R.S.L and it is generally em-ployment-related, there is no problem.” A Christchurch woman, permanently disabled by R.S.L, plans to set up a sufferers’ support group to help provide information and advice about the affliction. She had also suggested that some sufferers had not been compensated for the disease. Mr Judd said he did not know of any reason why compensation should be denied.
