Big job losses
PA Wellington About 20,000 jobs were lost in the manufacturing sector in the year to February, according to Statistics Department figures given yesterday. The figure represented 6.6 per cent of the number of people employed in manufacturing in February .last year.
The department’s figures also showed that the community, social and personal services sector continued to be New Zealand’s biggest employment sector, growing 1.9 per cent in the year to February. ' ’ • .... The total . number of people employed fell 1.9 per cent to 1,241,175
