Car to be won

A new Ford Falcon car and two gold coins are among the attractions of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s New Zealand Cup meeting announced yesterday by the chairman John Austin. The car, worth over $30,000, can be won by anyone who qualifies for entering a draw by purchasing goods to a certain value at Avon City Ford or purchasing products of Lion breweries.

The gold coins donated by Benson and Hedges can be won by patrons on the first day of the carnival which, with stakes of $l.l million will be the richest spring meeting yet held in New Zealand. The club has several new sponsors including Ken Lane International Holdings which will sponsor the Churchill Stakes, the Hotel Russley and the Canterbury Inn.
