Little to stir N.Z. dollar
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar drifted slightly in lifeless trade yesterday and dealers said there was little to stir the currency from its narrow trading band. The kiwi dollar closed at U561.55/65C, against its open at U561.57/67C and Wednesday’s close at U562.00/10c. It traded between U 561.48 and U561.90C.
On the cross rates, the kiwi dollar was worth Aust7B.77c, 1.1595 marks, 36.56 p, 82.744 yen and 0.9819 Swiss francs. The Reserve Bank trade weighted index closed the day at 62.2, firmer on its opening at 62.0 but easier on Wednesday’s close at 62.5. In Sydney the Australian dollar closed slightly weaker after firming towards the midsession and easing away this afternoon in the face of
selling orders by corporate customers. The currency finished at U578.20/30c, down from its opening at U578.40/45c and its high at U578.55C. It was marginally off last night’s close at U578.25/33C. Against the kiwi dollar the Aussie firmed to $NZ1.2703/ 35 from $NZ1.2656/87 last. But it was weaker at 104.86/ 99 yen from 105.35/48 and 0.4636/43 Stg from 0.4659/66.
