Moonies bite dust

NZPA-AAP Seoul Things cannot be going too well when the saviour of the world cannot help his own children win an Olympic medal. But that is how it was yesterday when two of the offspring of the leader of the Moonie cult, the Reverend Moon Sunmeyong, came crashing down to earth at the Seoul Equestrian Park. Moon Eun-jin and Moon Hyun-jin are both members of the Korean Olympic showjumping team. On yesterday’s performances it is difficult to understand why. First into the arena in the teams showjumping contest was Eun-jin who looked just the part in red riding jacket and sunglasses, perched upon her horse, Maxi-million. She then proceeded to cut a swathe through the 15 fences of the Olympic showjumping course. By the time Eun-jin was thrown to the ground she had collected more than 40 faults and finished with 50. Her brother was even worse. Moon Hyun-jin demolished three fences and badly damaged a few more before his horse, Out Of This World, refused to go any further. Pride and honour, though, went out the window as Dad, who applauded heartily as the youngsters appeared in the arena, left his seat before they rode out.
