Cashmere Wanderers well on way to plan success
Cashmere Wanderers Soccer Club looks to the future with confidence and enthusiasm. Two years ago the club adopted a five year plan formulated by their recently retired president Edward Abendanon. Having achieved the goals set for the first two years including the purchase of clubrooms and establishing a senior cricket section, the club is set to embark on an ambitious phase of growth. The objective of the club is to become the top sports club in Christchurch providing first class facilities for its members. To achieve these goals requires a professional approach and the club is
preparing to appoint a full time Secretary/Manager whose principal role is to raise funds, arrange sponsorship, general administration and looking into the acquisition of land (by, lease or purchase), and ultimately the establishment of playing fields and building new clubrooms. The club is mindful of the benefits of sport, particularly for the young, namely discipline, responsibilities, general camaraderie and the development of both a healthy club and community spirit. To this end, the club will be organising more social activities, team trips, camps and broadening its facilities to become an all-yqar-round sports-based club serving
the South Christchurch area. The club enjoys a strong junior section with approximately 290 members in the 1988 season. This year seven junior grade players obtained Canterbury representative status (Morgan Edwards, Martin Crone, Cameron Ryan, Scott McGrain, Andrew Hardey, Dominic Simons and Christian Hobson). From the 11th grade, Ben Cook, Chris McKee, Bradd Morris, Jessie Horgan, Regan Woolley and Christian Hobson were selected for the south zone to play a visiting Tasmanian selection. Whilst this strength augurs well for the future, it is impeative that the club attracts quality
coaches to achieve the desired results and welcome suitably qualified people to the club. With the determination and professional outlook
of the club committee and its members and considering its recent achieve; ments the future for Cashmere Wanderers looks exciting.
The club looks forward to the 1989 season and welcomes back players who wish to play at either a competitive or social level.
