Fewer view Seoul opening than L.A.

PA Wellington Television New Zealand’s coverage of the Seoul Olympics opening drew far fewer viewers than the ceremony at Los Angeles four years ago, according to A.G.B. Research Group. The opening ceremony which screened on a Saturday, achieved an audience level of 19 per cent of the population aged five years and over.

The opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games was the most popular programme of week 31 of that year and screened to an audience of 41 per cent of all people. Part two of the “Our World” documentary “Baka, People of the Rain Forest,” rated ninth over all for the week September 11 to 17, with a viewing level of 26 per

cent, research showed. The Sunday evening movie, “Can You Feel Me Dancing,” which starred Justine Bateman from the comedy “Family Ties,” was the week’s eighth most popular programme. It held most appeal for teenagers and women aged 20-39.

The 1985 movie, “Teen Wolf,” which went to air on Saturday a week ago, starring Michael J. Fox,

also of “Family Ties” fame, gained a viewing level of 29 per cent which earned it the position of nineteenth most viewed programme of the week.

The final episode of “Fair Go” proved to be the fourth most popular programme of the week. It achieved its highest viewing levels with men and women aged 40 and over.
