Mackwell boost for Manson
Another $lO,OOO towards a heart-lung transplant for a Redcliffs man, Mr Roger Manson, was contributed yesterday by Mrs Adrienne Mackwell, the Diamond Harbour woman who was given a new heart in Sydney last year. The $lO,OOO was left over from a public appeal by the Adrienne Mackwell Trust to raise $120,000 for Mrs Mackwell’s heart transplant at Sydney’s St Vincent’s Hospital in November last year. Mr Manson needs $186,500 for a heart-lung transplant at Harefield
Hospital, London. The $lO,OOO from the Mackwell Trust takes the total raised so far to $65,000. A Government grant of about $40,000 is expected to be announced later this week. Mrs Mackwell, who returned to New Zealand in February, has had no problem with rejection and had another clear biopsy last week. She has returned to full-time work and says she feels “great.” Extensive tests in November will determine whether she will have to return to Sydney for further treatment.
