Serestrina Melbourne bound

PA Auckland Serestrina made certain of a trip to Melbourne when she beat another top mare, Horlicks, at the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting on Friday evening. The mares, aged four and five, respectively, had a great tussle before Serestrina won the Allegra Park Stakes by half a head. Field Dancer dropped back some 200 metres out, leaving Serestrina and Horlicks to battle out the finish. Last season, Serestrina won the Frank Packer Plate at Randwick and the Glen Oaks Breeders’ Stakes at Awapuni. Her trainer, Geoff Haigh, said he had booked Serestrina and her stablemate, Candide, for Melbourne bn October 3. Serestrina has been entered for the Caulfield Cup, in which she will carry 49kg. Dave O’Sullivan, the senior co-trainer of Horlicks, said he was satisfied with the mare’s run. A fair way back right from the start, she made a big run wide from the 600 metres to close on the leaders, Matthew Ryan and Norfolk Inn.
