Ansett New Zealand domestic air fares increased by an average 12 per cent from midnight yesterday. The increase announced by Ansett’s chief executive, Mr John Buchanan, was the first main domestic fare increase in 18 months. Mr Buchanan said in-
creases were necessary because of the costs faced by the airline. “We have had to carry substantial costs in establishing the airline, and while our traffic share is excellent and our loads in excess of expectations on some services, we face rising costs,” he said.
