Guy draws champion

PA Seoul New Zealand’s Donna Guy has drawn the short straw and will meet the world champion in her first round match of the Olympic judo competition tomorrow. Guy will meet England’s Dianne Bell, the 61kg world champion, in her opening bout. The two have met once previously, Bell winning by the smallest margin possible, a koka, at the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games. The determined New Zealander, however, is un-

fazed and is in fact looking forward to the confrontation. “When I told my friends back home that I had drawn the world champion they were all disappointed,” she said. “Have a bit of faith, I told them. “I haven’t come here to be second and it is better to meet her first up than in a later round when she has had time to warm up.” Bell won world titles in 1986 and 1987 and although Guy took the bronze in the 1986 event the two did not meet.
