Axel Grinders at the Subway

The Axel Grinders along with Little Stevie McCabe and the National Sex Grid grace The Subway, at the New Zealander Tavern, this evening. The Grinders, who now consist of John Segovia (guitar), Fill Ascott (bass), Duane Zakarov (drums), and Aucklander Cecilia Pavlova (vocals, guitar), was originally formed in late 1987, but have had two line-up changes since.

Steve Brookes Cry Wolf play at the Dux de Lux Tavern tomorrow evening. The band consists of Steve Brookes, formerly of Rutherford Brookes, the Queenstown group, on guitars, Campbell Downie, (keyboards, percussion,

flugel horn), Richard Brookes (drums), Andrew Bennett (bass), and Paul Voight (guitars). The group is based in Auckland.

Breakout ’BB, the concert being organised by South Sound Promotions to help raise funds for the new National Music Resource and Development Centre at Kaiapoi, have set their ticket prices at $l5 and $13.50. The acts featured at the show on Sunday, October

16, consist of Mark Wells and Company and Amez Amez, of Christchurch, The Waratahs of Wellington, and the 13-piece Rick Bryant and the Jive Bombers, of Auckland. Tickets have gone on sale.

New Zealand Nuclear Free Peacemakers Association has organised a charity concert at The Subway, New Zealander Tavern, on Saturday, October 1, from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. Bands booked include

Genie and the Wild Children, Summer Onions, Next Week, I Am Joe’s Liver, Sacred Sisters, I

and I, Rachel and Vanessa, The Naked Room, Don’t Make Noise, Ros and Fleur, and

Christchurch. Charlie Musselwhite, the legendary white U.S. blues artist, will play at the Carlton Hotel on Thursday, October 6. Musselwhite will be bringing a three-piece backing band with him, although details on them are sketchy. The show is a further one in the series organised by the Southern Blues Club, of Christchurch.

The Johnnys, those perennial Australian rock cowboys, ride back into Christchurch next month for two dates. The band will play at the Carlton Hotel on October 7 and October 8.
