Midwives’ fees up
PA Wellington The Minister of Health, Mr Caygill, has announced that domiciliary midwives will receive a 50 per cent increase in fees and other payment increases.
The Government recognised home births as a genuine option for he said.
A Wellington Homebirth Association spokeswoman, Ms Madeline Gooda, said last evening the increases were impressive.
It would be a big improvement for midwives who under the old pay regime had to supervise 60 home births a year to obtain an income of about $21,000. p
