Monthly charge
The U.S. Commerce Department said that, starting with the September 14 release of data for July, it will provide a single report on monthly U.S. merchandise
trade containing import figures on both a c.i.f. (cost insurance freight) and a cus-toms-value basis. The cus-toms-value figures, which strip out freight and insurance charges and thus reduce the monthly U.S. import bill by about SUSI.SB, have hitherto been issued two days after the headline-grabbing statistics. From January 1989, it will issue only customsvalue figures.
