Bancroft in grand final
Phil Bancroft’s sequence of rugby league grand final appearances has not been interrupted by his transfer from Canterbury to Auckland. The hero of Baisweil's two recent title wins in Christchurch, Bancroft contributed two tries and four goals towards Gienora's 17-4 defeat of Mt Albert in the Auckland major semi-final last Sunday. . The chances of Northcote defending its Auckland and New Zealand titles were extinguished when it was a 26-8 loser to Te Atatu in the minor semi-final. Worse, the Northcote World Cup trialist, Paddy Tuimavave, was ordered off for allegedly using an elbow in a tackle. Te Atatu and Mt Albert meet on Sunday to decide which opposes Glenora in the grand final, and also joins Glenora in the Lion Red League Cup tournament.
