Team appeals for mini-bus loan
Has anybody two mini-buses to spare for a day? This is the request of the Hungarian women’s water polo team, which is in Christchurch competing in the F.I.N.A. women’s World Cup water polo competition. "The team (members) are on a very small budget and they hardly have enough money to buy themselves a drink after a game,” said the team’s co-ordinator, Mr Peter Koller.
Once the competition ended on Sunday, the team hoped to do some sightseeing. However, it was without sufficient transport, he said.
“They will have three days up their sleeve and were hoping to go ski-ing for a day,” Mr Koller said. The petrol, food and drivers would be provided and paid for by Market Probe, Ltd, Christchurch, of which he is managing director.
"We are only a small company of three, and to hire two mini-buses is just beyond our reach, on top of everything else,” he said.
The team of 16 players and three officials had hoped to make the. trip on August 30, Mr Koller said. None of the team members had been ski-ing before. If the weather was not suitable or the women did not have the essential clothing, a trip to Arthur’s Pass, Lewis Pass, and Hanmer Springs would be made instead. The team, the only entry from the Eastern bloc, yesterday beat Australia, the reigning world champion, byclO goals to eight. J- ’
