NETBALL Manawatu beat champions Auckland in under-21 post section play at the national age-group netball championships in Hastings yesterday. Manawatu, second in the championships section, defeated the northerners 35-26 in an exciting game. Auckland, tired after a hard game against an energetic Hawke’s Bay in the morning, found its opponents' quick and accurate play hard to cope with. Auckland topped the first section of play, with Waikato taking the second section, Canterbury the third and Wanganui the fourth.

Auckland and Waikato will meet today, as will Canterbury and Wanganui. The winners of those matches will play off for the Under-21 title.

North Shore looks set to take the title in the Under-18 section. With one game to go it is two points up on secondplaced Poverty Bay and Southland. Poverty Bay and Southland meet today while North Shore meets lowerplaced Auckland.
