Department cuts to be made
PA Wellington The Conservation Department would shed staff and sell some assets to keep within its budget, said the Minister of Conservation, Ms Clark, yesterday. No details would be released on the number of “surplus” jobs until those directly affected had been consulted, she said. Be 11 -1 ighte n i n g measures were needed because this year’s budget allocation had to accommodate last year’s overspending. The Cabinet had agreed to funding for voluntary redundancy agreements with the Public Service Association and the Workers’ Union. The agreements provided for* redeployment, retraining, leave without pay and voluntary severance for those in positions declared surplus.
