Spring cycle ride

The Lyttelton road tunnel will be open for cyclists on September 4 to celebrate the beginning of spring. The Spring Cycle from Christchurch to Corsair Bay has been organised by the Canterbury Cyclists’ Association.

Riders will leave Vic-

toria Square at 9.45 a.m. and travel by way of Armagh Street, Fitzgerald Avenue and Ferry Road. They will then ride along the Tunnel Road and up Heathcote Valley to meet cyclists from the eastern suburbs at the tunnel carpark at 10.45 a.m. The road tunnel will be

closed from 11 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. to allow the cyclists through on their way for lunch and a swim at Corsair Bay. Some may continue to Governor’s Bay.

The tunnel will be closed again at 3 p.m. to allow the riders to return.
