Claim extended
PA Wellington A Maori group wants exclusive fishing rights stretching 200 miles offshore. Northland’s Muriwhenua Incorporation already has a claim before the Waitangi Tribunal. It wants the claim amended to include waters up to the boundary of New Zea-
land’s exclusive economic zone. At a preliminary hearing in Wellington yesterday, the tribunal heard submissions from the Crown, Maori and fishing industry lawyers on the claim. The tribunal will set a date for a full hearing today.
