Candidates should have a research background in chemistry, preferably a PhD, demonstrating a capacity for independent research. The position is suitable for either a recent graduate or one with several years work history in a related role. Experience in textile science or in relevant specialities such as surface, protein, or polymer chemistry would be an advantage, as would familiarity with modern analytical techniques and computer methods. Adaptability, and an enthusiasm to relate research activities to technological problems and to become involved in industry is essential.
