Education Vacancies POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY THE University Grants Committee has awarded four full time UGC Post-Doctoral Fellowships tenable for a maximum period of two years in the following research areas to be taken up within two years of July 1, 1988' ECONOMICS - FiniteSample Properties of PreTest Estimators In Econometrics. (Ref. CBB/ 01). CIVIL ENGINEERING - Seismic Liquefaction of Sands. (Ref. CBB/02). GEOLOGY — Geological reconstruction of paleoswamp character for New Zealand Cretaceous-Ter-tiary coals, with reference to modern peat swamp analogues. (Ref. CBB/03). CHEMICAL AND PROCESS ENGINEERING - Improvement of Permeability and Drying Characteristics of Southern Beeches (Nothofagus spp.). (Ref. CBB/04). Applications are invited by the University of Canterbury from persons who are aged 35 years or less and who have been awarded, or have qualified for the award of, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, or a degree equivalent thereto, or who have submitted a thesis for examination. The emolument for a Fellowship shall be at a rate not exceeding the lowest step of the Lecturer salary scale ($35,000 per annum). VISITING FELLOWSHIP IN SOCIAL WORK 1989 UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY APPLICATIONS are invited for the above position which has been created to allow practitioners in any area of social work, including research, education and administration, to pursue an approved course of personal research for one academic year. The Fellowship carries neither an emolument nor allowances. An applicant employed in a department under the control of the State Services Commission may, If selected, be eligible for secondment on full salary. Such an applicant should apply to his or her own Department as well as to the University. Applications close on September 30, 1988. UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO Dunedin ASSISTANT LECTURER OR LECTURER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE APPLICATIONS are invited for a position at the Assistant Lecturer or Lecturer level in the Department of Computer Science. Exceptionally well qualified applicants could be appointed at the Senior Lecturer level. Applicants should have or shortly expect to complete a Postgraduate degree In Computer Science, and have had some teaching or demonstrating experience. Applicants with research interests in Computer Architecture, Computer Graphics, Databases, Medical Information Systems, Artificial Intelligence or Expert Systems would extend current departmental interests. However applicants with Interests and experience In other areas of Computer Science would also be welcomed.
