Kitchens and appliances a logical association
When Kitchen Appliance Specialists invited Cashmere Kitchens to join them in their showroom, they were delighted to accept. Locating kitchen appliances and kitchens together under one roof is logical, yet it is the first time it has been done in New Zealand, on this scale, says Mr John Dumergue, the manager
of Cashmere Kitchens and bathrooms. Cashmere Kitchens have designed and built all the kitchens at Kitchen Appliance Specialists for the joint venture. Two are for the Christchurch Cooking Academy, one for microwave looking, one for specialty cooking classes; the others are display kitchens for
Cashmere Kitchens. The three kitchens in the showroom display a range of kitchen styles and prices. John Dumergue describes the kitchen outfitted in. almond melteca as an everyday, commonsense kitchen. Roller drawers for pots and pans and carefully planned cupboard space demonstrate a kitchen planned for conveniepce and looks. The two other kitchens are integrated; that is, the doors of the appliances, such as the refrigerator, match exactly all the cupboard doors so that the appliances look no different from the cupboards. The white integrated kitchen has been planned to offset the Italian “Smeg” appliances. The third kitchen is in the top of the range. It is coloured in an unusual soft grey lacquer with a benchtop in Avonite, a new material. This is the first time Avonite has been used in
the South Island. Mulberry is the colour chosen to tone with the grey. Sharon Walker, a qualified kitchen consultant, of Cashmere Kitchens, is based in the new showroom to advise customers. Cashmere Kitchens was formed in 1982 as a division of lan Johnstone Ltd, a long-established Christchurch joinery company. Since then the company has enjoyed a robust growth rate. They make modular kitchen joinery, which is a convenience method that makes for easy planning and economies that can be passed on to the customer, Mr Dumergue says. Modular units do not mean any kind of limitation — the units can be designed for any shape or style of kitchen, he says. Cashmere Kitchens have 11 display kitchens in Christchurch; one in the Building Centre, one in the M.E.D. showroom and four in Disraeli Street, and five at Kitchen Appliance Specialists.
