Reserve to open at night

The Willowbank Wildlife Reserve in Hussey Road will be open at night from August 18 to allow visitors to view its new Wildlife by Night display. The director of the reserve, Mr Michael Willis, said the concept was believed to be the first of its type in the world and was being mounted at the reserve because many New Zealand bird species were at their most active at night. Animals in the display will include waterfowl, penguins, keas, owls, wekas, kiwis, opossums, eels and trout. Willowbank Wildlife Reserve has been remodelled in the last 2>/ 2 years and .visitors can view wildlife in a variety of settings including ' native bush, an alpine environment or on the jnarae of a pre-Euyopean 'Maori village.
