Darfield debate
Australia will not now become a province of New Zealand — after the negative won the celebrity debate in Darfield on Saturday evening. The topic, “Oz should become a province of Godzone,” was vigorously debated by the two international teams. The Australian celebrities, George Negus, of Australia’s Channel Nine, Ros Kelly, Australia’s Minister of Defence, and a “Bulletin” journalist, David McNicoll, took the negative. The affirmative was argued by Jim Hopkins, billed as New Zealand’s leading debater,, Dr Michael Cullen, member of Parliament for St KClda, and Ms Kerre Woodham, from television’s “Fair: Go.”
