Joint charge of kidnapping
PA Wellington Two Porirua men and a Kaikohe man have been remanded for depositions on joint charges of kidnapping, abduction and sexual violation of a girl, aged 14. In their sixth appearance in the District Court at Porirua on Wednesday were James Peter Hotai, aged 23, unemployed, and Mark John Sorenson, aged 26, a solo parent, both of Porirua, and Issac Paul Hamilton, aged 26, unemployed, of Kaikohe. Judge Bate remanded them in custody to September 19 for the taking of depositions. The charges relate to an incident alleged to
have occurred on June 9,
at Porirua. All, with the exception of one, have been laid indictably.
The joint charges are, abduction bf a girl, then aged 14, with intent to
have sexual intercourse with her; sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection; kidnapping with intent to cause her to be confined; attempting to kidnap with intent to cause her to be confined; and attempted abduction with intent to have sexual intercourse. Hotai has also been charged with assaulting the police, and assaulting the police with intent to obstruct them in the execution of their duty.
