First pay claim in
The first pay claim for the 1988 wage round has been filed in Auckland by the Northern Distribution Union. It calls for a flat $3O a week pay rise. The claim has been, filed on behalf of workers covered by the Northern and Canterbury stores award and is significant in that the union has opted for a flat dollar wage rise rather than a percentage increase.
A flat-sum increase benefits the lower paid more than a percentage increase and the strategy is in line with the Council of Trade Unions’ approach to the wage round. — PA.
