Extensive displays for photographers
This year the New Zealand Professional Photographers’ Association (N.Z.P.P.A.) celebrates its fiftieth anniversary. The main event is the Photographies ’BB convention which is being held in Christchurch. An unusual feature of the convention is an open day . next Sunday at the Town Hall. Mr Kerry Grant, the N.Z.P.P.A. national president from Rotorua, has arranged for local photographers to be at the Town Hall to answer questions about photography and using the services of a professional. Mr Grant says that the public are invited to come to the Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday to see an exhibition of professional photography and also visit the trade show. Photographies ’BB is the venue for a very large exhibition of photographs
by members of the N.Z.P.P.A. The display prints are from the association’s touring exhibition and feature the finest work produced by some of New Zealand’s leading professional photographers. “The display contains some very exciting images in commercial photography as well as in the wedding and portrait sections,” Mr Grant says. In addition, there is a collection of historical work where members of the association have contributed samples of their work over the past 50 years. “This is a very interesting collection as it features not only the changing styles of photography, but also changes in the environment and lifestyles,” Mr Grant says. The committee for Photographies ’BB has also been loaned a very extensive collection of early cameras which will be
displayed at the Town Hall. This collection promises to be of great interest to camera enthusiasts.
There will be an opportunity to view a range of equipment used by professional photographers. The trade show will, no doubt, be enjoyed by keen amateur photographers who will be able to view displays by manufacturers such as Hasselblad, Nikon and Mamiya. It has been many years since Christchurch has staged an exhibition of photography the size of Photographies *BB and anyone with even a passing interest in photgraphy will find a visit to the Town Hall on Sunday a worth-while experience. There is a small charge of $3 for adults (children with adults are free), and the N.Z.P.P.A. will be making a donation to a local charity from the proceeds.
