Big Mac action

NZPA-AP Baltimore Representatives of the fast-food giant, McDonald’s Corporation, have testified that Quality Inns International was infringing its trademarks by using the name, McSleep Inn, for a new chain of economy hotels.

McDonald’s took immediate exception last September to the use of the "Me” prefix after Quality Inns announced the new chain of hotels, which will offer a night’s lodging for SUS2O to SUS 29 ($3O to $43). After repeated warnings from McDonald’s to stop using the name, Quality Inns filed suit against the international hamburger chain, asking a Federal judge to declare that McSleep did not infringe the chain’s trademarks. When McDonald’s successfully sued the owner of a New York store called Mcßagel, a Federal judge ruled that the business community generally recognised the “Me” formative as a symbol of McDonald’s services and products.
