MICHAEL JACKSON will release a greatest hits album, according to his manager, Frank Dileo, but it is the first that Epic Records have heard of it.
Dileo revealed this in a radio interview while Jackson was on tour in Britain. Meanwhile, Jackson has extended his world tour to Japan, where it all started. * * *
FOLKWAVES, the U.S. folk label, has found some supporters to stop it from going under. Bruce Springsteen, John Cougar Mellencamp, and U2 are among artists who are featured on “Folkwaves — A Vision Shared,” due for release by CBS in October. The LP will feature the
songs of Woody Guthrie, and all proceeds will go towards Folkwaves, which owns the rights to all Guthrie’s songs. His son, Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Willie Nelson, and Emmylou Harris are others who perform on the album.
NICK CAVE was having a good time with the Bad Seeds inside the Limelight Club, London, while a former Bad Seed, Barry Adamson, was not
having a good time outside. Adamson ended up in hospital after mixing it with bouncers outside the club. Apparently,. Adamson got too enthusiastic about the Bad Seeds act and was asked to leave. He refused and was ejected from the club. His
jaw was allegedly broken by a bouncer and it means that his jaw will have to be wired up for six weeks. His forthcoming solo single, “Man With The Golden Arm,” has
been delayed until next month.
THE WEETBIX BOYS will make a welcome return to Christchurch to play in alcohol-free environments next week as part of a nation-wide tour.
The band was formed in December, 1986, by Simon Vare and Richard Morris, and their folksy sound was later filled out by Steve Cournane (percussion), who used to drum for the Alpaca Brothers and Jim’s Live Deer Recovery. Andy Scott (guitar) has joined the band.
The Weetbix Boys will play at Christchurch Polytechnic, Monday, and Lincoln College, Tuesday. These are lunchtime shows.
