Achieving career goals
The transition from university to a full time working career can prove a bewildering experience for graduates as they assess their career options. The reality is that their academic training must be supplemented by practical experience and further training before individual career goals can be achieved. Such staff development is something which is taken very seriously at Arthur Young, a New Zealand national chartered accounting firm. Arthur Young has made a major commitment to help staff reach their chosen potential. The firm has recently appointed Mr
Craig Morris as national training manager. As an integral part of its personnel philosophy it has a work planning and performance review system that ensures all staff have the resources to reach their career goals. This system means all Arthur Young staff participate in regular career reviews. What makes this process very different from most others is the responsibility staff have for initiating and managing the reviews. Staff can set their own career goals and Arthur Young will help them achieve what they want using both external and in-house training resources.
