Sir,—My son’s high school has sponsored him to attend the fourday “Action 88” leadership and communication experience in August. I am joyed at the chance my son is getting by attending a programme of this nature, but I am somewhat disturbed that our education system is grossly lacking direct life skills such as this course offers. Our schools should
not be content with educating our young people *in algebra, the properties of H2O, and how a rat used to breathe, when we are living in a society of violence, unstable family situations, and a devastating unemployment problem. Communication and leadership skills should be a fundamental part of our education curriculum, and it saddens me to think that an independent organisation such as this “Action 88” course, run entirely by volunteers, is necessary to substitute the missing elements in our educational system. I, however, congratulate these people on their task and wish them all the best for this year’s annual course. — Yours, etc.,
