Addington casino plans

By JEFF SCOTT Addington Raceway Limited, could be in the queue for a casino to be sited at Addingtoh Raceway. This was announced by Bob Duff, the chairman of directors of the Addington Raceway Limited, at the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s annual meeting yesterday. “The question of a casino has been looked at fairly closely in the last few months,” said Mr Duff. “Of course we have to wait until the committee of Inquiry from Government rules in favour of casinos, but we think a casino could fit in very nicely here without disturbing the racing,” he added. ington Raceway are contemplating in their efforts to make maximum use of the raceway as an entertainment and exhibition centre. Mr Duff reiterated the fact that the raceway is used only 31 days of the year for race meetings and they hope to extend the use of the $2O-$3O million complex as much as possible on the other 334 days. “The project would have to be weighed up closer to the time and we would not proceed if the concept was not looking to be viable.” Other projects being looked at next year include an updated computer board in the middle of the track, displaying more information and possibly corporate boxes, similar to those used at Lancaster Park.A,
