Tasman battle in Darfield

Never mind C.E.R., the rugby, or even the rugby league — Australia and New Zealand will do battle on August 6 in Darfield. The battle, which has captured international attention, is a celebrity debate on whether “Australia should become a state of Godzone.” Some of Australasia’s quickest mouths will be in action for the event, From across the Tasman are Channel Nine Australia’s George Negus, the Minister for Defence, Science and Personnel, Ms Roz Kelly, and a “Bulletin” writer, David McNicoll. From New Zealand are a leading debater, Jim Hopkins, the Minister of Social Welfare, Dr Michael Cullen, and Fair Go’s Kerri Woodham. Other team members have yet to be confirmed but the arts council’s problem is not the availability of celebrities, who seem to be queueing up, but the limit to ticket numbers imposed by the size of the Darfield High School Hall venue.
