Treaty of Waitangi
Sir, —I am angry with the people who say they want racial harmony and then argue along lines that they do not know are ignorant and hostile. Although I welcomed the choice of race relations as the topic for your features last week, I was disturbed that two contributors believed that their professional status gave them the authority to rubbish kohanga reo and the Waitangi Tribunal. For example, there was no reference to the published research which proves the advantages to children of learning two languages; and nothing on the scholarship of those servicing the tribunal. Such behaviour frightens the insecure and affirms the complacent.— Yours, etc.,
RHONA THORPE. July 17, 1988.
