The ousted president, Ferdinand Marcos, said he expected to end his Hawaii exile “very soon” and warned of attempts by unnamed foreign forces to provoke internal strife on his return to the Philippines. Marcos denied he was afraid of going home, saying he only wanted to be cautious and did not want to be known in history as a leader who plunged his country into civil war. “I expect to be home very, very soon,” Marcos was quoted as saying in an interview with an opposition politician, Rey Fajardo—Manila.
